Ingleside, Virginia, is an unincorporated community that is located in the far southwestern corner of the state. The history of Ingleside can be traced back to the mid-1700s when a group of Quakers from Pennsylvania first settled the area. The Quakers named the community “Ingleside” in honor of their leader, George Engel, who was an early proponent of Quaker ideals. Over the next two centuries, the community grew to include several houses, a post office, a church, and a school. The original settlement was centered around the current site of the Ingleside Inn, which was built in 1848. Ingleside was a largely rural, agricultural community until the late 1960s when the development of nearby Quantico Marine Base and Interstate 95 changed the nature of the region. This influx of new people and businesses caused the community to grow and diversify its economy. Today, Ingleside is a quiet, residential town with quaint shops, restaurants, and businesses. The town is also home to the Engleside Post Office, which still operates to this day. Despite its rural character, Engleside’s location makes it a great spot for commuters.
